Houston Public Libraries

Houston Public Libraries (HPL) provides diverse resources, including books and digital media, through its 44 branches in Houston, Texas. They host programs promoting literacy, learning, and community engagement, while offering free computer and internet access to bridge the digital divide.

Requirements

  1. Age requirement is 14 (parental permission required if under 18)
  2. Time commitment of 8 hours a month
  3. Send an application
  4. Long-term time commitments

Activities

  1. Collection Assistant: Maintenance of collection by shelving, shelf reading, processing discards, and removing items based on condition.
  2. Technology Assistant: Assists customers with library technology, computer needs and basic troubleshooting.
  3. Program Assistant: Help with anything happening in a HPL program
  4. Special Event Assistant: Volunteer assists with a one-time event.
